Welcome to the Boerenbondsmuseum in Gemert, where Brabant’s past comes to life. With original and authentically furnished farms and buildings, genuine objects, traditional crafts, and the true stories of the past. All of this in a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. A visit to the Boerenbondsmuseum takes you back to Brabant as it once was.

The Boerenbondsmuseum is located at the birthplace of Father van den Elsen, founder of several farmers’ cooperatives and the Boerenleenbank. It is a historic site, situated in the beautiful and green surroundings on the edge of Gemert.

During the museum season, demonstrations are given every Sunday and activities take place that show life in a Brabant village at the beginning of the last century. Crafts are demonstrated, butter and cheese are made, and bread is baked just like in the old days. In addition, various exhibitions provide an impression of village life at that time.

Gardens and fields

On the grounds, around the buildings and in the surroundings of the Boerenbondsmuseum, various gardens and fields can be found. These are arranged as they were in the past and are cultivated as much as possible in the traditional way. Near the fields, the field chapel of Saint Gerlacus can be visited.

On the grounds of the Boerenbondsmuseum there is also a petting zoo: ’t Prullekes Höfke (“children’s garden”). The petting zoo also includes a traditional orchard with tall fruit trees. Every mixed farm had an orchard with different varieties of apples and pears.

Collection of Brabantse poffers, caps and clothing

In the school building at the museum there is an extensive collection of Brabantse poffers and caps that provide a unique insight into the fashion of that time. Not only women’s clothing, but also children’s and men’s clothing from the early 20th century are on display.

A unique living open-air museum

The museum borders the beautiful countryside of Gemert. In the museum, as well as in the surrounding gardens, fields and farmlands, you will find peace and constant wonder. You truly feel transported back in time. The farm is run as it was at the beginning of the last century, and the fields are cultivated just as they were more than 100 years ago.
